Proposition 4 money the state placed with a foundation so it could move to local fire agencies faster than a state solicitation allows.
Four funding categories: firefighter health and safety, specialized firefighting equipment, vegetation and fuels management including fuel breaks and hazardous vegetation removal and defensible space projects, and public education and outreach.
Up to $1,000,000 per award. Matching funds are not required. Applications go through the foundation grants portal and funding decisions typically arrive within eight to ten weeks of the window closing.
One thing to settle before the window opens rather than during it. The published eligibility names fire departments, firefighter associations, nonprofit organizations and tribal entities, and does not name special districts. Confirm with cffgrants@cpf.org whether a fire protection district that contracts for its fire service qualifies.
