A five-year competitive program funded by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, helping communities plan for and reduce wildfire risk. Units of local government are eligible, and priority goes to communities in areas identified as having high or very high wildfire hazard potential. A Community Wildfire Protection Plan is central to the program, and the District has one.
Round 3 closed 14 March 2025 with up to $200 million available. Round 4 has not been released, and the Forest Service decided to hold the notice until the end of the 2026 fire season, so an announcement should land within the next few months.
The District applied for a Community Wildfire Defense Grant and the FY26 budget records that no notification had been received as of June 2025. The District does not appear among the Forest Service published funded proposals for Round 2 or Round 3. Before Round 4 opens, establish what happened to that application and request the reviewer feedback. A second application that does not know why the first failed is a wasted one.
