The San Diego Regional Fire Foundation awarded $276,000 in Project SAFE grants to 30 local Fire Safe Councils in July 2026, supported by SDG and E. Individual awards are small, in the range of $15,000, and fund chipping events, reflective address signage and fire safety presentations.
The applicant is a Fire Safe Council, not a fire district. The Vista Fire Safe Council wrote the 2024 CWPP and is the relevant body.
Its own plan lists becoming an accredited Fire Safe Council and establishing itself as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit as its first two priorities, and records that as a newly forming council it had nothing yet to mark as completed. So the useful District action is helping it finish that formation, which then unlocks this card, card 43, and foundation money the District itself can never reach.
